There was a loooong period of time in my life when I just missed sleep.
I missed it like you miss a vacation when it’s over.
When my daughter was born, I mourned the loss of the sleep that once was. How amazing was it to sleep in until noon then roll onto the couch and binge watch Sex and the City?? FREAKING AWESOME!!!! There was a time when a Saturday morning looked DIFFERENT from a Monday morning.
Those were the days.
When my kids were babies I would be desperate for a morning like that. I would have traded bottles, books, and walks at 6am for A-NY-THING!!
And then it happens. Life gets good again. It happens when they are about 4 years old and learn how to turn on the TV by themselves. (Absolutely zero guilt over that.) When I saw that Peppa Pig bought me an extra 30 minutes of sleep?? I was sold. Done.
Nowadays my kids get dressed and eat breakfast all by themselves, then watch YouTube crafting videos until I yell. I mean, there’s no way I’m getting out of bed at 6:30 to entertain them myself, so YouTube it is for now. But I worked hard for the 8 hours of sleep I get every night now and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
Sleep will be yours again, I promise. It takes time for things to return to the good old days of 8 solid hours, but it’s out there! Waiting for you, too.
What do your kids do in the morning that you have #zeroguilt over? What works or doesn’t work to get the sleep you need? Any tips or words of wisdom for tired parents?
